They are generally quite expensive to buy, especially the organic nut butters that I love to get. So I wanted to create a recipe that you can make easily and efficiently at home that doesn't break the bank! My ultimate favourite nut butter is Almond! So here is my recipe for Almond Butter...
The only thing you need to purchase is almonds! There is two stages to making the almond butter and they can be done on totally different days if you want, the first stage makes the roasted salted almonds (great addition to meals) and then the second stage makes them into the butter we know and love!
Ingredients:
-400g almonds (skin on) (Makes approx 2 regular almond butter pots)
-1 tablespoons on sunflower oil or extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt (depending on preference)
Instructions:
To make the Roasted Salted Almonds
1) Heat the oven to 180 degrees C.
2) Put the oil into a bowl and add the nuts and mix until covered.
3) Spread the almonds onto a baking tray and roast for 12 minutes, mixing once halfway through roasting.
4) Toss the hot almonds in the salt and then return the nuts to the oven for a further 2-4 minutes.
5) Allow the almonds to cool completely.
To make the Nut Butter:
1) Put all of the nuts into a good blender and blend for a good 5 minutes until a nut butter is formed. They will take a minute or two to start to break down, then continue to blend until completely smooth (the timing will depend on the power of your blender). You will need to scrape down the sides occasionally.
2) Transfer the almond butter to glass jars (I use empty almond butter jars, I have many...) and the butter will keep in the fridge for up to 3 weeks!
